Chari Towne Lecture

Wednesday May 14, 2014 - 7 p.m.

Chari Towne Lecture

To celebrate the Schuylkill as Pennsylvania's 2014 River of the Year, the Schuylkill River Heritage Area has organized a series of speaker events that will focus on the river's history, culture and environment.  Their first event will feature a presentation by author Chari Towne on the environmental cleanup that saved the Schuylkill River in the mid-20th century. Towne, the author of the book A River Again, will discuss the industrial practices that nearly destroyed the river during the Industrial Revolution. Towne tells a fascinating story about the people and events that led up to the Schuylkill River Project, the first major environmental cleanup of its kind. This event is free but please let us know you're coming. Click here to register.
