Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts: Making Art and Making a Difference!

Saturday June 12, 2010 - 1 to 3 p.m.

Bring your family to PAFA on Saturday, June 12th and see the galleries installed with beautiful, sublime and transcendent depictions of the American landscape that artists have been celebrating for centuries. Using our Family Gallery Guide to American Landscapes, journey through the grand vistas of Albert Bierstadt, the allegorical narrative of Winslow Homer's "Fox Hunt," and the tranquil yet color-rich scenes of the Pennsylvania Impressionists.

PAFA will also be on site at Art in the Open from 1-3 pm, where you create your own original, hand-drawn interpretation of a U.S. $100 bill as part of the Fundred Dollar Bill project. This unique art collaboration between internationally-renowned artist Mel Chin and the peoples of this country aims to eliminate the devastating effects of lead-contaminated soil that currently places children at risk for severe learning disabilities and behavioral problems. Everyone and anyone is invited to mint their own artistic currency during this workshop, with the goal of collecting over 3 million of these unique artworks which Mel plans to present to the U.S. Congress with a request for an even exchange of the creative capital-your Fundreds-for real funding to make safe lead-polluted soils in New Orleans.   Make a Fundred! Make a Difference!
